Jeremy from VPS6.NET hooked me up with a test VPS on their Turkish VPS node which is located in Istanbul, Turkey at Radore Data Center. From what I read, it seems Turkey is a well connected country with a decent network infrastructure contratry to what you may think about their standard of living. From what I hear, their mobile network is real good too.

Conclusion:
WooServers is a pretty good entry level, budget VPS hosting company but these disk benchmarks on their “elite” VPS line which is supposed to be better and have a 15k SAS (serial attached SCSI) drive is pretty weak.

I’m not sure if the node is overloaded or there are disk I/O abusers, such as a heavy MySQL user, but it is indeed “peak time” in the United States because it’s almost 2 o’clock in the afternoon.

BuyVM recently expanded from San Jose, California and opened up servers in Buffalo, NY to provide more stock to the masses. I ordered a 128mb $15 per year VPS when the stock came out for my cPanel DNS cluster and everything is fine so far. It’s the same BuyVM service that you know and love back in San Jose but now in Buffalo and there’s so much stock available that well.. I don’t see “out of stock” issues!

Conclusion:
BuyVM is a reliable, solid company but their previous business model of hoarding up stock for massive releases are no more anymore and I think the infamous “stock will be available soon” inside joke is now over. I don’t know how it’ll affect their business but looking at the BuyVM stock app from the Android market, I see there are more than enough stock in Buffalo, NY.

The disk performance is pretty awesome and for $15 per year is not bad at all for the performance.

BlueVM is well, I don’t know anything about them. They are a hosting provider who generally hangs around LowEndBox / LowEndTalk. They ran a new promotion today, with a 256mb VPS for $1.99 per month, and I decided to pick one up figuring that $1.99/mo could not be much to lose.

Speaking about I don’t know anything about them, there is nothing on their website or any registered business information on the site. The WHOIS information is even worse.

Registrant Contact:
   BlueVM Communications
    ()

   Fax:
   3403 Taylor St
   Honolulu, HI 96818

The phone number in the WHOIS is 850-313-4327, which is in the Milton, Florida area and the WHOIS information is Hawaii? I ran the address through Google and it points to a residence.

Plus no datacenter or network information and these guys are posted on LowEndBox’s front page with no issue? I’ve seen other providers put in the ringer for much less, such as misspellings, and these guys get a free pass?

The only information I have is their Level 3 technician is named Ishaq Azmi and a Google search of that name brings up Twitter accounts, the IRC server he runs and other social media stuff. Ishaq seems like a technical kinda guy too by the looks of it too..

Very unusual, but regardless I will let you make the assumption and if you should risk losing money or if you would go with a company that has public business information, about information on their website and other information.

Conclusion:
BlueVM has a relatively good hardware performance and benchmarks but I just can’t get over the LowEndBox free pass from BlueVM over their lack of business information, lack of WHOIS information and even something as important as lack of network information on their website. No data center information in any of the 4 facilities you are in, no test IPs or test files?

I’ll keep you updated on the progress and uptime on this VPS to give this company the benefit of the doubt.

Conclusion:
Cortex Networks is very reliable and I have been pleased for a long time with their service. I think I will be a customer for a long time and I appreciate Jeremy’s help over the past 6+ months.

If you want a solid service which the price reflects quality and with a company that is a registered LLC, go with Cortex Networks. If you want the same service but $10 cheaper and questionable reliability, go right ahead and find a potential fly-by-night company who could take your money!

Conclusion:
ChicagoVPS’ $12 per year offer is pretty decent.

Granted, some folks will avoid it because of 128mb of RAM and no burstable memory but if you need something totally low resource intensive, like a OpenVPN server or a webserver like nginx serving up static content, but likely some folks motivated by budget are going to try to load up WordPress running Apache and PHP which will die each time there are updates running.

Jeremy from VPS6.NET has been pushing me hard for reviews of his Xen VPS services and this is his recent offering from Miami, Florida as one of their nodes has a new friend – an additional node in Miami for Xen / Windows VPS orders.

This is a review of their Xen VPS Hosting in Miami, Florida.

XEN-768

2 vCPU Cores

768MB DEDICATED RAM

1536MB SWAP RAM

40gb Disk Space

2000GB BANDWIDTH /MO.

1Gbps Uplink

RAID60 10K SAS DISKS

1 IPv4 Address

$18.95 per month*

*Current coupon codes

DOUBLEMYVPS6 – doubles your RAM and bandwidth if you prepay 3, 6 or 12 months (not valid for “monthly” orders).

POWERUP – additional 2 CPU cores OR an additional 1 TB of bandwidth, 10% off recurring and this is for monthly orders only.

Servers are hosted in Miami, Florida at Telx’s hosting facility in downtown Miami. With the recent storm a few weeks ago, Telx’s facility was not impacted one bit by the tropical storm that blew past Miami. There was no power or network outages reported, plus Jeremy told me that everything flowed normally to their Central and South American hosting clients who prefer the Miami location over Chicago or Los Angeles because of the less latency the submarine fiber loop cable that runs from Miami, to Central America, to the top of South America and back to Miami then up the Eastern US to eventually link to the UK.

Telx Miami is located at 36 North East 2nd Street in downtown Miami in a seven story, fifty thousand square feet hosting facility. VPS6.NET’s colocation at Telx Miami gives VPS6.NET a blend of nLayer, AT&T, XO and AboveNet at their location. Below, you can find test IP and test files:

Test IP: 64.250.122.1

100MB Test File: http://64.250.122.122/100mb.bin

1GB Test File: http://64.250.122.122/1gb.bin

VPS6.NET only uses premium VPS nodes compared to other folks who shop the bargain bin at a data center or budget, low end server provider like DataShack. Budget, low end and bargain all get you budget and low end results. However, the Miami Xen VPS node for VPS6.NET is as follows:

Dual Xeon L5645 CPUs (24 HT Cores)

72GB ECC-Certified DDR3 RAM

16x 10k SAS Drives w/ RAID60

Note: The first is 1000, 1mb block files, the second is 16000 16k block files and the third is 1000, 1mb block files without caching. All these “dd tests” are very consistent, reliable and often times better than some budget “SSD VPS” benchmarks.

Conclusion:
Might as well get the POWERUP coupon for 2 additional CPUs! I don’t see why you would need another 1TB of bandwidth when the plans offered by VPS6.NET have more than enough bandwidth unless you’re running some torrent seeding VPS or file sharing host which sucks bandwidth from everyone else on a node.

A lot of people ask when VPS6.NET is going to launch a SSD VPS product line and I see with the high 200s, almost 300 MB/s, on the dd tests it’s comparable to “budget”, “low end” SSD VPS providers in the under $10 range but VPS6.NET offers may more disk space than a budget SSD VPS provider with their Serial Attached SCSI (SAS) disk drives in their VPS nodes.

I could not login to my WordPress admin screen for a while and got sidetracked with other projects. Well it turns out my admin screen was hung up because of wp-content/object-cache.php after an upgrade. Deleting wp-content/object-cache.php will free up the “No Upgrade Required. Your WordPress database is already up-to-date!” error!

With that being said, I’ve launched a few projects.

ssdvps.info will review and show offers from SSD VPS providers.

Other projects are still under development but I will update this site with some benchmarks I’ve had for awhile.

Thank you.
